No visual aid will ever live up to what fifth-graders saw at Lloyd Road Elementary School in Aberdeen, N.J. October 16. Right in the middle of a grammar review, a deer jumped through a class window, darted out of the class room and headed to, where else, the cafeteria, reported Foxnews.com.
Police officers and school staff “corralled” the deer by sliding lunch tables around an exit door. The deer got the message and ran through a door this time. But once outside, it tried to jump through another school window. This time, it couldn’t get through, so it opted to run into nearby woods.
Autumn is deer mating season, with November being the peak time, called the “rut,” according to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Deer are able to run up to 40 miles per hour, scale 9 foot fences and even swim up to 13 miles per hour, according to naturalists in Wisconsin.
WTVR-TV in Richmond, Va. reported nearly 200 people die in crashes involving animals, including deer, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In the United States, there are 725,000 wildlife-vehicle collisions annually.
